Nora + Rob: A Mountain Destination Wedding Weekend at The Mast Farm Inn

We had an intimate wedding filled with family and friends in the gorgeous, lush setting of the Mast Farm Inn. We got married during a hurricane, and not many couples can say that! It rained record-breaking amounts the week of our wedding, and our wedding day was no different, but wind and rain couldn’t ruin our day! In fact, hearing the wind gusts and walnuts falling on our reception tent made it all the more adventurous and exciting! If rain is supposed to be lucky, then we must be one of the most blessed couples Valle Crucis has seen!

The weekend started with an epic session on Grandfather Mountain...which had actually just closed because of the weather, but they actually made some calls and allowed us in for a bit to do our shoot!

...Followed by the dinner rehearsal at The Mast Farm Inn...

We wanted it to be simple but elegant, so we chose a palate of blushes and grays. It was important to us to keep a rustic, organic feel to compliment the beautiful venue! It was laid back, with beautiful candlelight and ‘firefly’ centerpieces resting on cedar slabs. I was so thrilled with how everything came out, it looked like something off of Pinterest! Beautiful roses, succulents, pops of white from hydrangeas, everything was just so cozy and gorgeous.

I also wanted a non-traditional gown, so I found a gorgeous ivory-over-blush fit and flare gown that was fun, curve-hugging, and made me feel like a princess!

Rob and I met through Twitter! I had broken my iPhone, and tweeted if anyone had one they could sell me. Rob replied, and I went to pick it up from his work. Fast forward a year, and we started talking again through Twitter; I ended up going to his house one night to watch Dexter, drink some beer, and eat dinosaur chicken nuggets. 4 months later, we were finalizing our plans to move across the country to Seattle together!

He proposed at the annual Tulip Festival in the spring of 2013; we were in a field of tulips, and he got down on one knee and proposed with a custom-made ring with meteorite (since I’m a huge space/astronomy nerd). We now go back to the Tulip Festival every year!

One of my favorite memories was when the bridal march transitioned to the Imperial March as Nora walked down the aisle. Not only was it that perfect balance of traditional and unique to us, but during the rehearsal the wedding party had jokingly started humming it, without having nay knowledge of our plans. It immediately made us laugh and much of the worry and stress melt away. From that moment forward the ceremony was exactly what it should be, a fun and entertaining celebration.

Our ceremony intro was AMAZING! Our officiant performed the ‘wedding scene’ from The Princess Bride, word-for-word, with 100% commitment. It was incredible, I had completely forgotten that I asked him to do that a few weeks prior! Of course, our first-look was also so special, and helped calm our nerves a bit. Other special memories were smothering Rob’s face with frosting, and secret late-night-pizza that one of the groomsmen ordered and had delivered to the main inn house at Mast Farm Inn!
— Nora
Our wedding had a rockin’ band, amazing food, and fire pits! It was definitely a great party!

Advice for future brides + grooms?

1) As much as you want everything to be perfect, something will go wrong. It's inevitable. Roll with the punches!
2) Look to Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, but don't let perfection and social-media ideals ruin your vision of a wedding! Not everything can be internet-picture-perfect. Think about the touches that are important to you, and focus on those.
3) Think about the little details and custom things you might want, and order them early! We had some great last-minute ideas for items to order off of etsy (custom inscribed forks with our wedding date, custom garters, custom guestbook, etc.), but waited until the last minute to order many of them. All of the vendors came through, but it added some stress!
4) Sparklers are always a great idea! :)

Nora + Rob - You guys were such blast to work with! Thank you for being so awesome! We've had the best time getting to know you! :)
