Dellinger Family Farms: The Farm, The Family, The Story…
This past weekend we had the opportunity to visit the Dellinger Family Farm. Dellinger Farms is a 4th generation farm just outside of Cherryville, NC. For over 100 years, the Dellinger family has been farming in the foothills of North Carolina.
“At Dellinger Family Farms, we use sustainable agricultural practices to produce a variety of heirloom and hybrid vegetables. We specialize in Southern favorites and rare Italian heirloom vegetables. Our vegetable varieties are selected for taste and nutrition. We save our own open-pollinated seed, import seed from Italy, and NEVER grow genetically modified vegetables.”
Agriculture has changed dramatically since the first Dellingers farmed this land in the late 1800’s. The United States has seen a shift from small diversified family farms to industrial production controlled by a few large corporations.
“Our vision is to be a producer of high quality, sustainably grown food, while protecting the environment, preserving farm land for future generations and providing wildlife habitat.”
Dellinger Family Farm specializes in hay, straw, grains, soybeans and market vegetables, pasture-raised poultry and lamb. You can find these guys at the local Downtown Hickory Farmer’s Market! Local farmers' markets provide a great source of fresh, local, and reasonably priced food. You can always count on having the very best options at your local market. Whether you are looking for vegetables, fruit, meats, cheeses herbs or even flowers for your lawn, you can always count on the local farmers market to provide.
