9 Little Wedding Day Tips (that will help you BIG time)

1. Choose a mint or breath strips over chewing gum on your wedding day. Even though chewing gum can help with those wedding day jitters, it’s not a good idea to walk down the aisle with chewing gum in your mouth. You wouldn’t want your chewing gum showing up in your wedding day photos! Smile Oops! Be sure to remind your wedding party of this as well.

2. Do hire someone to take care of your hair/ make-up on your big day. No matter how amazing you are with your own hair/make-up, it’s always a good idea to go ahead and hire someone to take care of it for you so that you can relax and be as stress-free as possible on your big day. Be sure to do a trial run though, which leads me to my next tip…

3. Do make sure to do a trial run on your hair + make-up well before your wedding day. This will give your hair stylist a chance to get to know your hair, try different things depending on your hair type, and it will be a good way to see if your style of choice will stand the test of time. Also, doing a trial run on make-up will give you a chance to get used to a little more make-up than you are used to because often times a make-up artist will apply more make-up than you are used to so that it will enhance your features in your wedding day photographs. If you absolutely do not want too much make-up than you are comfortable with, this is your chance to try it that way, take a couple of test photos, and see how you feel about your look BEFORE your big day. That way there are no unexpected and stressful surprises on your wedding day.
4. Beware of too much tanning/tanning lotion/spray tan right before the big day. Orange/tan lines = not good for photos. Smile
5. Have a “Wedding Day Emergency Kit”:
  • Advil
  • Band-Aids
  • Bottle(s) of water
  • Clear nail polish
  • Corsage pins
  • Dental floss/toothpicks
  • Eye drops/extra contacts
  • Extra earring backs
  • Hair pins/ponytail holder
  • Mini sewing kit
  • Safety pins
  • Scotch tape
  • Scissors
  • Spot remover (or a Tide to Go Pen)
  • Static-cling spray
  • Straws (so the bride can stay hydrated without messing up her lipstick)
  • Tissues
  • Granola Bars or easy-to-carry snacks
  • Make-up for touch-ups
  • Hair spray
  • Lint Roller
  • Deodorant
  • Flip Flops (for traveling here and there for photos or before the ceremony)

6. If you’re having a photographer there while you’re getting ready, ask one of your bridesmaids to be in charge of keeping your bridal suite tidy and free of trash and clutter. You won’t have to worry about it on your big day, and you’ll be thankful later when you have beautiful, clutter-free photographs (it makes it sooooo much easier on the photographer!)

7. Don’t lock your knees during the wedding ceremony. When you lock your knees for a long period of time, you are at risk of passing out, especially on a hot day when your nerves are kicking in. Remember to relax your knees!

8. Work with your planner/coordinator to incorporate little pockets of “cushion time” when putting together your wedding day timeline. Always ask people to arrive earlier than on your timeline and you are more likely to stay on schedule.

9. Consider having an “unplugged” wedding ceremony. Too many shots have been ruined because of a guest jumping out with his/her camera or cell phone during the wedding ceremony, especially during those monumental moments such as the bride walking down the aisle, the first kiss, the couple walking back down the aisle as husband and wife, the first dance, etc. Ask your guests to be mindful of taking photos outside of their space during this time to ensure that your photographer will be able to capture these essential moments.
