Sarah + Patrick: A Southern Wedding Celebration at The Crossing in Hickory, NC

As we were planning, we continually insisted that every part of our day would hold significance and value to us in some manner - writing our own vows, my dad marrying us, wearing my mom’s veil, carrying grandma’s pearls, my brother playing the guitar as I walked down the aisle, wearing batman socks because of a silly nickname, taking communion, rocking the new monogram as “something blue”, honoring our families - who combined have over 100 years of marriage expertise... you get the point. We didn’t want to just do things because it was expected. Because of this attitude, the day was more special than we could have imagined. Every part was relaxed, personal, and unforgettable as it was all about us and what we wanted our marriage to be about.

We promised to laugh, to cry, and to not sweat the small stuff... and it made for the best day of our lives to date.

My biggest stress leading up to the day was the possibility of poor weather. Of course, it started to downpour just as I walked across the outdoor patio to get to the ceremony, and then stopped just as we walked down the aisle as husband and wife. We hear that’s good luck for our marriage - showers upon showers of blessings. And now, my biggest wedding-day fear turned out to be one of my favorite memories.

We wanted the day to be about us, our family, and our friends, so it was important that we had photos that captured the faces of those we love. Looking back five, ten, twenty years from now, it will bring us such joy to see the smiles and hugs of cherished relationships.
