Carolina Adventures: From the mountains to the coast (and back to the mountains)

A couple of weeks ago we ventured to the North Carolina Outer Banks to photograph a beach wedding in Kill Devil Hills. We decided to make a little mini vacation out of it so we rented a house on the beach and enjoyed a couple of relaxing days during this super busy wedding month. It was a much needed thing for us! Here are a few snapshots from our trip...

We rented this amazing beach house...

We cooked the most amazing dinner with good friends.... Steak with a lemon, butter, white wine emulsion with fresh basil, sun-dried tomatoes and Caprino cheese...

We got to see a lighthouse! (I have never seen one in person, believe it or not!)

This is the Bodie Island Lighthouse...

Tucked away between tall pine trees and freshwater marshland, the Bodie Island Light presents anything but a typical lighthouse setting. Though not as well-known as its neighbors, it remains an important part of local history and a favorite spot for visitors. And still every evening, amidst the water towers and blinking radio antennae of modern development, its powerful light beams out across the darkening waves, keeping silent watch over the treacherous waters known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic.

We had lots of fun roaming around, taking photos, and watching the water moccasins swim around on the pier beside the lighthouse *shivers*

After a relaxing afternoon we geared up for our beach wedding! Below are some behind the scenes shots from the wedding day...

The beaches at the Outer Banks are just beautiful!

On our way out of town the following day we visited an incredible cafe called "Cafe Lachine" in Nags Head, and then we headed straight home to get some rest before heading back up the mountain for a wedding in Flat Rock, NC. It was nice to spend some time in downtown Asheville the day after our wedding in Flat Rock. We visited the "Early Girl Eatery" for brunch! SO good! Of course we stopped for coffee too.... lots of it that day...
